From Angels Foster Parents

Dear Angels,
"Just wanted to write you a quick letter to acknowledge what an awesome
organization Angels is. We know you founded Angels to fulfill your dream
of making a positive difference to these very young foster children, so
they would not be bounced from one foster home to another and end up victims
of the system. We wanted to express our most heartfelt thanks for allowing
our family to realize our long-term dream of having our baby daughter.
We love her so much; she is truly a gift of love from heaven, and our
entire family adores her. The Angels organization is a marvelous gift
to San Diego County, The State of California, The United States of America
and even the world. We are so happy you created Angels and appreciate
all your loving, kind, helpful support and look forward to being able
to celebrate the final adoption of our beautiful little daughter, Jeanne,
with you and the entire Angels staff very soon."
Very Sincerely,
Patti and Tom Clark
Dear Angels,
"Our family has been involved in foster care before with another
agency, and we thought, after a bad experience, that foster care must
not be for us. When we heard about Angels it seemed too good to true.
Now that we have been with the Angels agency since its inception, we have
learned that it really is true and that the love and compassion this agency
has for children is truly exceptional! These children, who otherwise might
be on the streets of San Diego, or in many different foster homes, have
blessed our home and family. Many people tell us what a wonderful deed
we are doing, yet we are the ones who are blessed and encouraged each
day by these children. We would encourage anyone who has love for children
and the opportunity to open their homes and hearts to do so. The blessings
are bountiful! Before you point a finger lend a hand! Thank you Angels
for your loving support and encouragement!"
Sincerely,
The Cooper Family of Carlsbad
Dear Angels,
"At last I have a minute to write you a few lines. It was adoption
paper signing day for us, which means that neither girl got a nap, which
means they went to bed so early that I FINALLY have a second to sit down
and do e-mail!" We would never have realized that there were precious
babies in the foster care system if not for the Angels FFN. Without this
realization we would not have brought home our precious angel, Molly.
Being a foster parent would have been frightening for us without our strong
and supportive Angels FFN. The agency provides us with excellent training,
support groups, and a family feeling. In addition to bringing more children
into our family, we have added many wonderful new friends through Angels!"
Thanks Angels!
Elizabeth, Doug, Katie and our angel Molly
Dear Angels,
"Our foster daughter was severely beaten, malnourished, and developmentally
delayed. It was heartbreaking to see a tiny baby so wounded. With time,
love and prayer she began to recover and flourish. It was scary and deeply
emotional to take her to visit her birth parents, who had done so much
damage to her. The support we received from our Angels case worker made
all the strain bearable. We wouldn't have received so much personal contact
and "hand holding" from a county worker. After eighteen months, we were
able to adopt our daughter. She is now fully recovered and a precious
addition to our family."

Dear Angels,
" Our experience with Angels has been life enriching. One year
ago we became first-time foster parents of twin 14-month-old girls. The
twins had come from an unstable environment, and one of the girls was
having adjustment difficulties. With hard work, patience, love, and stability
the girls adapted to their environment and thrived. However, after a few
months, the county social worker made an unfounded, unilateral decision
to move the girls to an out-of-state relative without ever seeing the
girls or understanding their background and needs. Angels intervened to
prevent this move, and to have the uncaring social worker removed from
the case. Subsequently, we were fortunate to have two county social workers
who were dedicated to the best interest of the children. Without the assistance
of Angels, the children would have suffered a major setback. Today we
are in the final stages of the adoption process which would never have
been possible without Angels."

"Cathy Richman was a messenger from God. As soon
as we met with Cathy everything fell into place. It is indescribable the
rewards you get inside. We had a few concerns because we had an 8-year-old
son and we wanted to make sure we were doing the right thing for our son.
Angels helped with those sibling concerns. I can't say enough about the
classes, they touched on every subject".
Angels foster parents
My family (husband Dan, daughters Becca 15 and Amy 14) and I have belonged to Angels for 5 1/2 years and we are caring for our 10th foster child. We are strictly fostering—we do not want to adopt. Our job is to get the babies healthy and happy and ready for their permanent families. Normally, we care for newborns until they are permanently placed. We have had only one child go home, a few to other family members and the rest were adopted. All but one of our babies has been taken away because their mom used drugs while pregnant. Our current angel is a little girl that is 8 months old. We have had her 2 months.
I love being an Angel's mom. I adore newborn babies, so this program gives me the opportunity to care for a newborn baby until their forever families are ready. Of course it is so hard to say goodbye, but I try to remember that we have turned some adults into a family and given them the best gift they will ever receive - a healthy happy baby! We usually take some time off and then we are called to help another baby in need.
I would enthusiastically encourage families to become foster parents with Angels FFA. The Angels staff is amazing. They are always available to answer questions, give moral support and help navigate the maze of the foster care system. The training was thorough and comprehensive. We felt confident that we had learned what we needed to know to succeed as foster parents. Angels also gives the baby a MY STUFF duffle bag with some clothes and toys. We are also paid enough money to cover the child's needs.
This experience has so enriched our lives. It has been a great teaching example for our daughters, too. They are seeing what happens when you do drugs and they are learning what is involved in being a parent. They have also learned how to care for a baby—they can feed, change diapers, dress, etc.
In San Diego County, there are over 7,000 children in foster care. There is such a need for loving families to care for these children. Even if you can't make a long-term commitment, there are so many other things you can do. Donations are always needed and are greatly appreciated.
As you can see, I can talk for hours about Angels and our babies. I am proud to be a part of this wonderful organization that has positively changed so many children's lives.

From Other Voices in the Community
"As a pediatrician in the community, I see angels
as a guiding light. They can come in and take these kids from unsafe environments
and provide a safe, nurturing, warm and loving environment where they
can continue to thrive."
Debbie Franzen, M.D.
"There are thousands of juveniles that nobody in
their lives ever cared about, ever loved, ever gave direction to and held
accountable. The Angels are able to take these kids who wouldn't have
a family or parents, and find people who care about them and love them
understand what it means to have a kid."
Bill Kolender, San Diego Sheriff
"By donating now, we avoid paying for incarceration later.
When I was working as the superintendent of one of the honor camps in
our county, I had conversation with some of the older inmates, and a high
percentage of them came from homes that were very dysfunctional. Then
they themselves became parents of a dysfunctional family. I think the
missing ingredient is what Angels provides on a regular basis for our
babies and for their siblings."

"It's very motivational to see people like Cathy Richman who are
so committed to this cause and how she has kept it alive and growing and
vibrant and all the wonderful matches her organization has made"
